    CIVIL COURT RECORDS -Room 170

    Small Claims, County Civil and Circuit Civil cases are filed, processed and maintained in Civil Court Records. Within these three designated court areas there are multiple types of actions that can be filed including landlord/tenant actions, mortgage foreclosures, adoptions, medical malpractice suits, domestic and repeat violence, eminent domain (condemnation) cases, dissolution of marriage, child support and personal injury cases. Circuit Civil cases involve actions with monetary damages in excess of $15,000, County cases involve actions with monetary actions in excess of $5,000 but less than $15,000, and Small Claims cases are actions with less than $5,000 in damages.

    DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SERVICES

    Any person who is either the victim of domestic violence, or has reasonable cause to believe he or she is in imminent danger of becoming the victim of any act of domestic violence, has standing in the circuit court to file a sworn petition for an injunction for protection against domestic violence. You must appear in person at one of the Clerk's Office locations listed here to file for an Injunction for Protection. The staff in the Clerk of the Circuit Court's Office will assist you in completing the necessary paperwork to petition the court for an Injunction for Protection.

    MARRIAGE LICENSES & CEREMONIES

    The Clerk of the Circuit Court is empowered to issue marriage licenses, perform marriage ceremonies, record marriage licenses and issue certified copies of licenses through the Recording Services department.

    Records dating back to 1912, including land records and certain court documents, can be found in the Official Records Room. The Clerk's employees will assist in the use of resources and equipment. Many records are available on this website here.
